Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess and examine the occurrence and possibility of structural equivalence in technical texts from French to English. Portions of the document La conversion à l'agriculture biologique dans les pays en développement: une voie de développement durable have been selected as the working sample for this study. The study assessed structural equivalence in technical texts such as the one chosen as the source text for this study. Functional and linguistic translation theories were applied in the process of this study. It was found out that structural equivalence in technical texts is largely successful even though it can be a problem when strictly adhered to without the use of dynamic equivalence strategies. Information was not lost in sticking to the ST structure even in cases where functional theories were applied because technical texts are mostly full of information and devoid of literary writing.
