Abstract
A number of factors are responsible for the basic educational progress of the girl-child in
rural Ghana. Among these factors can be access to potable water by households and basic
schools. Lack of potable water or its inaccessibility is likely to hinder the education of the
girl-child.
The main objective of the study was to assess the effect of access to rural water on girl
child education in the Yilo Krobo area, using 3 communities in Boti Area. The researcher
tried to assess some characteristics of water supply systems in relation to girl-child school
participation i.e. attendance, punctuality and completion of assignment. The study adopted
a variety of sampling techniques including a systematic random sampling in selecting a
sample size of 90 girls from JHS 1, 2 and 3.
