| dc.description.abstract | In this project work, we have examined the problem of equivalence raised by the translation of a pragmatic text. We have defined equivalence and its importance in translation and the difficulties encountered by the translator in achieve a faithful translation of a pragmatic text which combines technical terms and cultural expressions. Our work is based on the translation of an extract of the book entitled Health Conscious Living written by Adrian Brown. Two main problems have been discussed after the translation of this pragmatic text: equivalence problems related to the speech chosen by the author, and equivalence problems related to the cultural aspects in the source text. The choices made to translate this text were based on several techniques of translation defended by translation theorists to reach adequacy and transfer the essential ideas and intention of the author of the original text into the target language. Other minor challenges, such as ambiguity, encountered during the translation have been analyzedin this work. Keywords: equivalence, pragmatic text, faithful translation, intention of the author, adequacy. | en_US |
