Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to delineate a road map for development and learning in organizations using information systems as a key trigger. Design/methodology/approach – This is a conceptual paper using arguments from the information systems development (ISD) literature. Findings – The authors show that there are two knowledge sources, external and internal; and the interaction of these diverse knowledge sources is needed for the effective utilization of information systems as a development and learning tool in organizations. Originality/value – The authors recommend that organizations should seek to learn during ISD processes as well as learning from the project outcome.
