Several initiatives are in place to support educational success in Ghana. In this study, the positive and negative effects of the use of mobile phones to support primary schooling were examined. Using qualitative and exploratory methodology, the authors worked with various stakeholders in selected rural communities in Ghana to identify major benefits and drawbacks of mobile-phone use in not only the educational but also the larger sociopolitical contexts. Ties to the larger practices of humanitarian work psychology, future directions, and recommendations for mobile-phone use best practices in the educational context are discussed.
