A Characterization of the Alternating Group an, for N≥8, by its Fusion System Over a Sylow 2-Subgroup

Abstract

This thesis aims to characterize the alternating group An, for n ≥ 8, by its fusion system over a Sylow 2-subgroup. The results here will contribute to Aschbacher’s programme which is aimed at providing a simplified proof of the theorem of classification of finite simple groups.
