Abstract
This paper examines the nature, formation and function of relative clauses in Akan. It discusses the following: i) noun phrase (NP) positions which are accessible to relativization, ii) the morpheme or particle that introduces the clause, and iii) the type(s) of NPs that may serve as the heads of relative clauses. It also examines the issue of restrictive and non-restrictive relative clauses and shows that in Akan, this distinction is not syntactically and semantically relevant.
