Abstract
In translation documents, translators are often confronted with challenges during the process. One of such problems he may face arise from the fact that some words or phrases provide various meanings in different communicating situations and finding equivalence becomes a problem. The purpose of this study is to investigate the issue of grammatical and structural equivalence in translation. A text translated from French into English will serve as our corpus for examining the forms of equivalence. This analysis is done from a linguistics perspective using Gorge Yule (1988) and from a translation perspective using the views of Mildred L. Larson (1984) and Mona Baker (1992, 1998) as a theoretical framework. It includes a main corpus and three control corpora. The study investigates the issue of grammatical and structural equivalence including the findings and recommendations.
