Abstract

In Africa, as in other developing countries, the necessity to train people for work in librarianship has followed closely the establishment and development of libraries. Whatever the pat- tern in the years ahead, however, * 'the library profession in West Africa will forever be indebted to the efforts of those far-seeing librarians who in- spired their associates with some of their own vision and zeal and laid the foundation on which library education could be built in this part of the world
