dc.descriptionThe interview was recorded at United Nations Office, Geneva, on April 21, 1986 . The Interviewer was William Powell. Dr. James Green became involved with the United Nations at its birth, having spent part of his State Department career, from 1946 to 1954, focused on the United Nations. After writing The United Nations and Human Rights in 1956, he served in the Foreign Service until he retired in 1969. Before his retirement, he served as executive director of President Johnson's Commission for the Observance of Human Rights Year in 1968, as well as charge d'affaires in Ghana. Mr. Green discusses his involvement with the United Nations at its early years in this interview, conducted on 21 April 1986. Here, he shares his personal memories of when the United Nations Charter was signed, its first meetings and the personalities involved.en_US
