Abstract
It is obvious that, these days, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become
an integral part of our life and our society. Today, ICT affects almost all aspects of human life,
the teaching and learning of foreign languages is not an exception.
This present study aims at finding out the contribution of ICT to the teaching and learning of
French as a Foreign Language (FFL) at the University of Ghana by focusing on the case of
students in level 400. Our objective, in this research, is to know if the students of French at the
University of Ghana make use of ICT (computers, smartphones, IPads, Internet and applications)
to facilitate their learning and understanding in French. Through this study, we understand that
the students really make use of ICT in their learning of FFL: regular use of Internet, downloading
of applications for learning of French language, mobile learning, and access to group discussions
etc. Through these means, students are exposed to the French language outside of the classroom.
The majority of lecturers in the Department of French also value and recognize the importance
of ICT both in their research and in their teaching.
It is interesting to note that the majority of lecturers and students agree that the use of ICT
facilitate and improves the teaching and learning of FFL and therefore support their increased
integration in the teaching and learning of French in the department of French at the University
of Ghana.
The results of the study validate our hypothesis that ICT constitute an asset in the teaching and
learning of FFL.
