Accessing Primary Health Care for Urban Slum Dwellers in Ghana: A Commentary

Abstract

This commentary discusses the challenges faced by urban slum dwellers in low-and-middle- income countries (LMICs) like Ghana, where resources are poorly invested in the improvement of living conditions and quality of health care which is central to human development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Using two case studies of fast-growing neighbourhoods in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana to understand mechanisms through which residents access Primary Health Care, we suggest creative ways of modifying the system to fit the urban context.
