Abstract
his document is a primer (textbook) for teaching the Gä (also known as Ga or Accra) language, published by the Basel Mission for use in the first year of vernacular schools in the Gold Coast (modern-day Ghana). The ninth edition, printed in 1914, it is a comprehensive educational tool designed for literacy and language acquisition. It begins with fundamental literacy components, such as the alphabet, syllables, and basic vocabulary, and progresses to more complex reading passages, religious texts (including Bible stories and prayers), arithmetic lessons (like multiplication tables), and moral stories. The content reflects the missionary's educational goals, combining language instruction with Christian religious teachings and practical knowledge. It serves as a valuable historical resource on early 20th-century European-led vernacular education and linguistic efforts in West Africa
