The J. H. Kwabena Nketia Archives, located at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, is a premier center for the preservation and study of Africa’s cultural heritage. Named in honor of Professor J. H. Kwabena Nketia - renowned ethnomusicologist, composer, and scholar, the Archives safeguard a wide range of materials that document the continent’s intellectual, artistic, and cultural traditions.
Our collections include audiovisual recordings, photographs, manuscripts, field notes, and other unique resources that capture Ghanaian and African cultural expressions across generations. The Archives serve students, researchers, artists, and the public by providing access to invaluable primary sources that support teaching, learning, and scholarship in Africa and beyond.
Through the Institutional Repository, the Nketia Archives community provides a digital gateway to selected collections and publications, ensuring wider access, long-term preservation, and the promotion of African knowledge systems in global academic discourse.
