Item Retirement Experiences of Female Retirees in Accra. A Case Study of Fifteen Women.(University of Ghana, 2001-05) Otoo-Addo, F.Item Information Needs and Information Seeking Behaviour of Police Prosecutors at the Criminal Investigation Department, Headquarters, Accra.(University of Ghana, 2005) Adu, K.K.This study investigated the information needs and information seeking behaviour of Police Prosecutors at The Greater Accra Region. This study sought to identify the sources of information for Police Prosecutors, the effect of age, education and experience on information seeking behaviour and perception, police prosecutors hold about the Library. The study also investigated the barriers to information seeking by Police Prosecutors and the extent to which Police Prosecutors rely on the Library for their information needs as well as the limitation of the Library in providing adequate information to Police Prosecutors. Questionnaires were distributed to 50 Prosecutors. Thirty-five (35) usable responses received. The responses have been presented and analyzed. Results gathered from the analyses indicate that a great number of Prosecutors are much aware of the pivotal role of the library. They are of the view that the Library should be expended, resourced with the current books and staff of Police Service be trained in Library skills to enhance effective information provision. The Police Service in general is bedeviled with many constraints to information. Among them are suspects of crime unwillingness to share information, lack of funding for the library, and the changing nature of the law relating to crime. Among the recommendation made to enhance the Prosecutor's ability to combat crime and to keep abreast of the law are the holding of regular Meeting and Seminars and Six months' training on Criminal CodeItem Documentation and Management of Cultural Property at the Accra Museum(University of Ghana, 2003-09) Ahiable-Addo, D.The range of items which can be regarded as cultural property is vast. Unfortunately day, efforts to preserve or 10 restore cultural property in museums is unsatisfactory. This calls for the need for guidance as to how best to manage and conserve these cultural artefacts. This study investigated the documentation, conservation and restoration practices that are carried out at the Ghana National Museum and provides measures which can be employed to ensure the longevity of the cultural properties for exhibition and research work A survey was conducted and data collected through questionnaires from a random sampled population of 200 artefacts, comprising 17 easel paintings, 22 stone works, wood artefacts. 19 metal works, 18 leather works, 21 wall paintings, 23 archival materials, 17 Bone and Ivory works, 20 pottery works and 19 textile artifacts The survey was based on examining what quantity of artefacts were in goodItem The Coping Strategies of Single Parents: A Study of Female Household Headship in Accra(University Of Ghana, 2003-06) Kpoor, A.This study investigates the coping strategies of single female parents in Accra. Single female parents within Maamobi, New Dansoman and Roman Ridge areas in Accra were interviewed through in-depth interviews and a survey. Specifically, the study sought to find out the socio-economic factors that account for single female parenthood. how single lelllaie parents econoillically support their households. examine social support mechanisms for single female parents and whether they make mqjor decisions in their households. The major findings are that divorce is principally responsible for single female parenthood due to mainly the infidelity of husbands In the absence of men (husbands), single female parents through earning incomes which are although low, bear the bulk of responsibility In the maintenance of children and the household in addition to making major decisions. The fathers of the children of single female parents mostly do not assist the women in the maintenance of children. In situations \\here children's fathers assist the \\omen. the\ mostly do so occasionally. Kin of single female parents on the other hand mostly assist the women \\ith housing and household chores. The study thus concludes that single female parents are to a large extent heads of households Finally, the study offers recommendations such as improving the educational and income generating potential of women through sound macro economic policies and programmes by the government and NGOs respecti\ely and the enactment of relevant Im\s by parlianlent to ensure that single female parents recei \e child support from their children's fathers among others.Item HIV/AIDS Related Risk Perception and Sexual Practices In Osu Klottey Sub-Metropolitan Area Of Accra(University of Ghana, 2009-08) Mamattah, P.A.An individual's knowledge of HI V transmission and accurate assessment of their own risk is key in adopting safer sexual practices. Evidence suggests prevalence of HIV I AIDS among Ghanaians has seen a steady decline over the years; however there are reports of new infection among various populations despite on-going interventions sustaining prevention education among youth and other special groups is very vital in contributing to further decline in the overall prevalence of HIV / AIDS. This study explored HIV I AIDS related risk perception and sexual practices of sero positive persons and those who did not know their status in the Osu Klottey Sub-metropolitan area. The study was exploratory and descriptive in nature and employed both qualitative and quantitative methods in data collection. Tools such as Survey questionnaires, In-depth individual interview and Focus Group Discussion guides were used. Key Informants like caregivers, health care providers as well as PLWHA's were interviewed. Key findings of the study included inconsistent use of preventive measures by sexually active respondents, both sero positive and those who did not know their status. The male and female positive persons had different perceptions about how they got infected, for instance majority of HIV positive females believed they were infected by their husbands and malevolent spirits. HIV/AIDS related risk perception was found to be higher among sero positive persons than respondents who did not know their HIV status while most positive persons and their relations believed that ART was 'cure' and could 'heal' them completely. The study also made the following recommendations among others, the need for expansion of CT services in the community while more research is conducted into the population, their specific needs, and access to needed services created especially for MSM.
