Abstract

In the present study, a pretest/posttest design was employed to test the efficacy of a 12-week cognitive training program used to simultaneously stimulate multiple cognitive abilities through guided mental exercises. A three-month no contact interval, following the posttest, was implemented to evaluate the durability of the cognitive intervention. Participants improved on measures of executive function, learning/memory, verbal fluency, motor speed and overall cognitive function. Cognitive gains remained significant after the three-month no contact interval. These findings support previous studies that have shown the benefit of cognitive training on mental abilities in older adults.
