Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show that there lies a deeper theological motivation beyond the exclusion of the offender recommended by Paul in 1 Cor 5:1-13: revealing the true identity of the Christian community and her responsibility in the face of moral disorder. Reading the pericope from a communicative perspective provides a frame for reflecting on how historically-minded Ghanaian Christian communities may practice church discipline in a manner that will reflect the injunctions in Paul.
