The Interviewer was James Sutterlin .Mr. Geoffrey Murray was appointed Senior Counsellor in charge of Political Committee Items for the Canadian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in 1955. During the outbreak of the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956, Mr. Murray participated in numerous meetings and committees that established the first United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF). Prior to joining the Canadian Mission, Mr. Murray worked in the Middle East Section of the European Division in the Canadian Government. In this interview, conducted on 10 January 1991, Mr. Murray recounted the meetings leading up to the creation of UNEF as well as Canada's involvement in dealing with the crisis. | en_US |
