dc.descriptionThe interview was recorded at Cairo, Egypt , on March 12, 1998 . The Interviewer was Jean Krasno. Said Kamal began to work with the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1969. The following year, he became Assistant to the Chief of Political Affairs in the PLO, and was promoted to Vice-Chairman of Political Affairs in 1974. In 1988, President Yasser Arafat appointed Mr. Kamal as the first Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt. From 1994 to 2005, he held the position of Assistant to the Secretary-General for Palestinian Affairs in the League of Arab States. Mr. Kamal discussed the history of Palestine in this interview, conducted on 12 March 1998. He shared his thoughts on the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine, the difficulties and wars that followed and the Palestinian view of the United Nations. He also touched upon how most Palestinians grapple with the issue of their national identity.en_US
