Feminist theorizing and praxis has had a bumpy, yet ultimately successful voyage over several 'waves.' These waves have sought to respond to women's experiences and needs in changing social and political circumstances, eventually recognizing that context matters. Feminism has not only struggled to dismantle patriarchy and transform societies, but it has also responded to the unique cultural contexts in which people live. Today, some argue that we live in a postfeminist age in which feminism is no longer relevant. Others argue that this is a short-sighted view born out of a limited appreciation of the unique cultural contexts on which women's experiences are based, and feminist consciousness is born. This article discusses the multicultural and global trajectories and dimensions of feminisms, paying particular attention to non-Western forms that have received less attention. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
