This paper, presented at the 1967 International Conference on African Bibliography, addresses the critical challenges of achieving bibliographical control over African manuscripts and archives. The author identifies two main problems: the need for African archives to collect and organize local materials, and the imperative to gather copies of African historical records that are widely dispersed in archives across Europe and the Americas.
