This paper explores the advancement of women into leadership positions through education in South Africa. Despite differences in levels of domination the broad principle remains the same, that is men are in control. Patriarchy is the prime obstacle to women's advancement and development. Patriarchal society gives absolute priority to men and to some extent limits women's human rights. It refers to male domination both in public and private sphere. In this way feminists use the term patriarchy to describe power relationships between men and women ad well as to find the root cause of women's subordination.en_US
