Abstract

Four hundred and seventy-nine (479) cases of eye injuries were surveyed at Korle-Bu (K'Bu), Akim Oda, and Wa government hospitals in a prospective study. Males predominated with a male to female ratio of 2.3:1. Most of the injuries occurred in the third decade age group. About I in 4 injuries occurred in children. The major types of injury encountered were superficial foreign bodies, blunt and perforating injuries. Leading causes of injury were small atmospheric particles, sticks, stones, human hand and fighting. Drunk cyclists were targets in the Wa district.
