Abstract

Cowpea seeds of 32 accessions had 100-seed weight of 9.0 to 15.3 g and protein and tannin contents 16.4 to 27.3% and 0.12 to 2.38, respectively. Seeds that had the highest tannin levels were either brown mottled, dark mottled, brown or flesh-coloured. There was a significant negative correlation between 100-seed weight and protein content.
