Abstract

The recourse to animal images with the set aim of entertaining, informing and educating society is a universal phenomenon. African literature, colonial or post-colonial, resorts to representations of animals to stress the degeneration and dysfunction of human society. Using the titles, narrative worlds, themes and decors of animal-centred works as reference points, this article seeks to investigate the ever-increasing depictions of animals in Francophone African literature.
