Abstract

The town of Kumasi lies about 130 miles North West from Accra on the cost of the Gold Coast Colony. It is 'the capital of Ashanti which came under British rule for the first time in 1896, when King Prempeh and the Queen Mother submitted and were subsequently deported in 1901 the territory was formally annexed to the British Crown, and since that year the history of Ashanti has been one of steady progress in the direction of civilization
