dc.description.abstract | In a group of children with severe malarial anemia (Hb less than 6 g% no correlation was found between the severity of the anemia and the parasitemia levels. Significant splenomegaly was present in 46 of the 47 children. Antiglobulin tests using a polyvalent antihuman serum and an antiserum specifically reactive with C'3 components of complement gave uniformly negative agglutination results in 46 patients. Possible mechanisms for the anemia of malaria are discussed in relation to these and other published experimental data. | en_US |
