Abstract
The formation of this particular Department in Ashanti was directly due to the initiative of the present Chief Commissioner, Mr. C.H. Harper, C.M.G., O.B.E. He advocated its creation on the ground that it was necessary to collect and preserve before it was too late a record of Ashanti customs and beliefs
