Abstract
This study examines the impact of the Disability Fund on the livelihoods and well-being of persons
with disabilities (PWDs) in the Ga East Municipality of Ghana. Utilising a phenomenological
approach, the research explores the experiences of beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of the fund,
as well as the perspectives of the administrators responsible for its management. Data were
collected through in-depth interviews with 12 respondents, including PWDs and fund
administrators. The findings reveal that the Disability Fund has contributed to the economic
empowerment of some beneficiaries, enabling them to engage in income-generating activities,
thereby improving their financial situations. Additionally, the fund has positively impacted social
and community participation, fostering a sense of inclusion among beneficiaries. However, the
study also identifies significant challenges, including lengthy application processes, lack of
transparency, and irregular disbursement of funds, which limit the overall effectiveness of the
programme. Due to these findings, the study recommends streamlining application procedures,
increasing transparency, ensuring regular disbursements, as well as enhancing collaboration
among stakeholders. These measures, if implemented, would significantly improve the fund's
ability to support the livelihoods and well-being of PWDs in the Ga East Municipality.
