Abstract

This paper discusses the events and happenings in Ghana within the first one hundred days of oil production. Using elite interviews and media reports, the paper chronicles several challenges and problems including lack of transparency, secrecy, consensus building, discontentment, etc that have occurred in the oil industry. Given that these were the same challenges that characterized the preparatory processes prior to oil production, the paper argues that the challenges and problems of the oil industry within the first hundred days of oil production are not mere teething problems but signs of greater challenges to come. The paper concludes on the note that timeous and prompt solution to these challenges is crucial in ensuring that the oil becomes a blessing to the nation in so far as development and promotion of good governance and democracy are concerned
