| dc.description | The interview was recorded at Amman, Jordan , on March 18, 1998 . The Interviewer was Jean Krasno. Dr. Mustafa Hamarneh was at a boarding school on the West Bank of Jordan when the Six Days War broke out in 1967. At the age of fourteen, he travelled with his brother from the Israeli-occupied West Bank to reunite with his family in Amman, Jordan. Dr. Hamarneh became an influential Jordanian political analyst and scholar; he was one of the key contributors to building a strong Jordanian civil society in the midst of political liberalization. Internationally educated, with degrees from La Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Dr. Hamarneh became director of the University of Jordan's Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) in 1992. Under his watch, CSS became well known for its interpretations of trends within society and politics for Jordanian, Arab and Western audiences. This interview was conducted on 14 March 1998, while Dr. Hamarneh still held his post as director of CSS. He discussed his personal experiences in the West Bank during the 1967 Six Days War and the events leading up to 1970's "Black September." | en_US |
