Poetry has a rich and fertile soil in Africa because Africans have no inhibitions about their emotions. They laugh and weep without restraint and leave no one in any doubt of their amusement or displeasure. Africans have unsophisticated innocence. It could almost be said that from the cradle to the grave they regale themselves with songs of joy or soothe their pain with their mellifluous chants of distress. The stuff of which poetry is born is there without measure.en_US
