The interview was recorded at Amman, Jordan, on March 14, 1998. The Interviewer was Jean Krasno.A long-time Jordanian Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Hazem Zaki Nusseibeh was appointed as the Foreign Minister of Jordan from 1962 to 1966. Mr. Nusseibeh was also the Minister of the Hashemite Royal Court and political adviser to King Hussein and Minister of Reconstruction and Development from 1967 to 1968. Thereafter, he served at multiple diplomatic posts: Egypt (1969-1971), Turkey (1971-1972) and Italy, Switzerland and Austria (1972-1974). In 1976, Mr. Nusseibeh was appointed as the Jordanian Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Following this post, he served as a member of the Jordanian Senate from 1982 to 1989.
This interview, conducted on 14 March 1998, provided an overview of Jordanian sentiment during the various wars which form part of the Middle East crisis. Specifically, Mr. Nusseibeh shared his opinions and thoughts on Jordanian involvement in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, the Yom Kippur War and the attempts for ceasefire that followed.
