Health insurance is considered crucial for women in Ghana if they are to reduce the problem of child and maternal mortality. A binary logit model is used to investigate the determinants of the participation decision for public health insurance of women aged 15-49. Significant predictors of a woman’s participation in health insurance are found to include income, religion, age and access to relevant information via the media. In addition, the number of nurses per head of population and the distance to the nearest health facility are also key determinants of insurance demand.en_US
