L'antigène de surface de 25 KDa (Pfs25) des zygotes et askinetes est un premier candidat pour un vaccin bloquant la transmission. On a récemment isolé le gène codant Pfs25. L'explication la plus probable du manque de variation de l'antigène est que Pfs25 n'est exprimé que lorsque le parasite est chez le moustique
