    Styles and Practices Performance in Nigerian Gospel Musicianship

    In this paper, various stylistic techniques and practices that distinguish the sub-types of Nigerian gospel music are highlighted and classified. The data was collected through the discography method, then the data was collated and analyzed. This paper asserts that singing style constitutes a distinguishing factor in Nigerian gospel music while the performance practices forms one of the determinants of the African-ess of the genre. The hermeneutics of this great music are also examined in the paper.

    Compositional Techniques and Styles in Nigerian Gospel Music

    This paper describes and analyzes various compositional techniques and styles used in Nigerian gospel music. It also digs out different sources of the compositional works as a way of assessing the quality of the genre. By the findings in the paper, the distinctiveness of both Nigerian gospel music and African music in general, composition wise, can be deducted. The paper concludes on the need to guide the up-coming composers of gospel music with the existing principles of the art.
