The interview was recorded at London, England, on April 22, 1991 . The Interviewer was James Sutterlin.Sir Donald Logan was serving as Assistant Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Selwyn Loyd, when the Suez Crisis erupted in 1956. In this capacity, he was present for the France-British-Israeli meeting at Sevres in October 1956, which settled the terms of cooperation for the three countries. Following this, Sir Logan continued his diplomatic service as Ambassador to Guinea from 1960 to 1962; and to Bulgaria from 1970 to 1973. Sir Logan then was appointed Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to NATO from 1973 to 1975, and the leader of the United Kingdom Delegation to the Conference on Marine Living Resources of Antarctica from 1978 to 1980.
This interview was conducted on 22 April 1991 while Sir Logan was serving as a governor of the St. Clare's College Oxford, a position he maintained from 1982 to 2000. Sir Logan discussed his personal account of the events that took place during the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956. He touched upon the British attitude towards the United Nations and the United States, the Sevres meeting, the First and Second Emergency Meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, the British withdrawal, and evaluated the repercussions that the Crisis had on international relations as a whole.
