Item Gender Differentials in Family Size Among Ghanaian Couples(Journal of Asian and African studies, 1997-01) Takyi, B.; Oheneba-Sakyi, Y.Using data from the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS) of 1988, the present study focuses on the impact of demographic, social, economic and interpersonal factors on family size among Ghanaian couples. The results of our study indicate that age at first marriage is a significant factor in fertility levels for wives but not for husbands. Furthermore, there is an inverse relationship between a mother's education and fertility, although the relationship between a husband's education and family size is not significant. Nonetheless, consistent with previous research, the husband's approval of the use of family planning plays a significant role in the couple's fertility behavior. In addition to increasing educational opportunities for women, it is suggested that men should be fully integrated into family planning programs in Ghana. The characteristics of the husbands and their influence on wives' behaviour illustrate the role of intra-household relations between men and women and their effect on fertility-related behaviour in patriarchal African societies. With the exception of recent research with an emphasis on childbearing issues, few researchers have analyzed these on-going developments. Using Ghana as a case study, this article examines the context of mate selection among men and women. We also compare the effect of structural as opposed to cultural factors on contemporary mate selection patterns. Findings from our analysis indicate an increasing propensity for Africans to self-select their partners. At the same time, women are more likely than men to consider the family's input in selecting their partners. Individual reports and concordance in couples' replies reflect this observation. Our overall results support the thesis that worldwide family processes in Africa may be converging to patterns in other parts of the world.Item Philosophical Basis of Adult Education in Ghana. In achieving this objective a survey was conducted among 200 women. The study revealed that the women had attained a low level of formal education. However recognizing their level of economic independence and participation in decision-making in the home and community, it could be concluded that the women had attained an appreciable level of empowerment. With some capacity building, there could be a boost in the situation of the women.Item The Performance of Facilitators in the Functional Literacy Programme of the Upper East Region of Ghana(Ghana Journal of Development Studies, 2006-11) Adjei, F.G.Item Akanten: A Key to Understanding Traditional Akan(Accra: Woeli Publishing Services, 2007) Oduro-Mensah, D.Item Akanism and Hebrewism: Akan-Mesopotamian Links and Earlier Civilization(Accra: Woeli Publishing Services, 2007) Oduro-Mensah, D.Item Education for Integrated Rural Development: Case of the IAE-CODE Project of the Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana(Ghana Journal of Literacy and Adult Education, 2007-07) Oduro-Mensah, D.Item The Challenge of Demographic Transition of the Elderly in Ghana from Youth to Old age(Journal of Literacy and Adult Education, 2009) Agyemang, F.; Oduro-Mensah, D.Item English for Beginners(Woeli Publishing, 2009) Oduro-Mensah, D.Item Reducing HIV Stigma Through Education(Institute of Continuing and Distance education, 2009) Oduro-Mensah, D.Item Economic and social development.
