Abstract:
Though, the Yoruba in Nigeria occupy Southwestern part and a portion of North Central area of the country, they also form part of the indigenes of some other West African countries such as the Republic of Benin and Togo. Having stated this fact, it is necessary to affirm that the issue discussed in this write-up concerns dùndún music practice among the Yoruba of South Western part of Nigeria. Among the Yoruba of the area, dùndún, has been known as one of the most popular drumming ensemble. The focus of this paper is therefore based on the origin, social context and the textual content of Gbandikan, a dùndún dance music of the youths in Yorubaland of Nigeria.
