Abstract:
An investigation was carried out over a period
of one year on the isolation of Campylobacter
jejuni from children with and without diarrhoea
in an urban and a rural area in Ghana. From a
total of 836 stool specimens examined aver this
period, the isolation rate of c. Jejuni was 6.6%
(30/455) and 12.8% (36/281) from the urban
and rural areas respectively. The incidence for
the control group was 4% (4/100). C. Jejuni
was found to be rather prevalent in children
aged between 7-12 months. There appe~1 to
be no relationship between the rain-fall pattern
and the incidence of C. Jejuni Infection during
the period of this study.
