Abstract:
Ten years after the launch of the first mobile money solution in Ghana, the service can be said to
be a game changer in the country’s financial services industry. The research aimed at assessing the
contribution of mobile money towards the promotion of financial inclusion within the Awutu-
Breku area. The study was a descriptive research and the population made up of the users of mobile
money. The study used a simple random sampling technique to sample three hundred and twentyfour
(324) users of mobile money to answer a designed questionnaire. The study proved that there
exists a relationship between financial inclusion and mobile money. The study also indicated that
mobile money has led to an increase in financial inclusion. Challenges such as fraud, PIN loss, and
network hitches were indicated as hindrances to the mobile money platform. The research made
various recommendations such as more security measures should be added to solve the issue of
fraud and PIN loss; the regulation of the mobile money service and the instigating of a stakeholder
analysis to help improve the service.
