Abstract: One of the main concerns of geographic studies is the understanding of spatial and temporal dynamics of the earth surface. In doing so, geographers have employed surveying and sampling methods and technologies in data collection, analysis and publishing which help in revealing the underlying processes that generate the observed spatial pattern. The primary focus of this chapter is to discuss techniques employed by geographers in field data collection. The chapter presents methods of collecting physical and socio-economic and other data relevant to describe the spatial variation of a geographic area.
